Our intensive KS2 SATS Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar Preparation and Revision course starts during the Easter bank holiday and runs for three weekends.

Enrolment is now open and places are limited. Enrolment will end when the places are full. 

Application Process | Parents, along with their child(ren) should complete the Student Application Form.  It has 6 sections and will take about 10 minutes to complete. 

Successful families will be notified via email and will receive a log on to access course materials and a student welcome pack.

Each session lasts 1 hour.  Our lessons are structured in 15 minute learning blocks. Typically, each lesson has three 15 minute learning blocks, two 5 minute wellness breaks and a 5 minute closing session.

Week 1: Grammar Basics

Introduces fundamental grammar concepts including types of nouns, verb tenses, and basic sentence structures. Students will learn to identify and use different parts of speech.

Week 2: Punctuation Fundamentals

Covers essential punctuation rules, focusing on capital letters, full stops, commas, question marks, and exclamation marks. Students will practice applying these in various contexts.

Week 3: Spelling Strategies

Explores spelling rules for suffixes, prefixes, and common homophones. Students will develop strategies to improve spelling accuracy and learn about word origins.

Week 4: Reading Comprehension Foundations

Introduces key reading comprehension skills such as identifying main ideas, summarizing texts, and making basic inferences. Students will practice understanding explicit information in various text types.

Week 5: Advanced Grammar

Delves into more complex grammar concepts including active and passive voice, relative clauses, and modal verbs. This week builds on the basics to enhance students' grammatical understanding.

Week 6: Vocabulary and Word Classes

Expands students' vocabulary and understanding of word classes. Focuses on synonyms, antonyms, and the impact of prefixes and suffixes on word meaning.

Week 7: Advanced Punctuation

Covers more sophisticated punctuation including apostrophes, colons, semi-colons, and dashes. Students will learn how to use these effectively in their writing.

Week 8: Advanced Reading Comprehension

Builds on earlier comprehension skills, teaching students to analyse texts more deeply, make complex inferences, and critically evaluate author's choices. Focuses on understanding implicit information and authorial intent.

Week 9: Grammar in Context

Focuses on applying grammar knowledge in context, including varied sentence structures, tense consistency, and effective use of conjunctions.

Week 10: Spelling Patterns and Rules

Addresses common spelling patterns, rules for words with silent letters, and strategies for mastering frequently misspelled words.

Week 11: Mock SATs Preparation

Introduces students to the SATs format and question types. This week focuses on time management and test-taking strategies through practice with mock exam papers.

Week 12: Final Review and Exam Preparation

Provides a comprehensive review of all topics covered in the course. Students will identify areas needing further practice and receive last-minute tips for the SATs exam.

BlackStarAcademy’s 12-week course includes two dedicated weeks for reading comprehension while maintaining a strong focus on grammar, punctuation, and spelling skills essential for the KS2 English SATs.
