At Black Star Academy, we believe that language is more than communication — it’s a commitment to justice and solidarity. Every Kiswahili and Shona class we offer directly supports families displaced by conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

🕊️ The Congo Crisis: A History of Extraction and Resilience

For centuries, Congo has faced colonial exploitation, global plundering of its minerals, and violence fuelled by foreign interference. Today, millions remain internally displaced, especially in North Kivu and Goma, due to recurring militia attacks and deep-rooted inequality.

👣 Ubuntu in Action: Supporting the Displaced

Through your class registration, you support Ubuntu House, a sanctuary in Goma that currently houses 32 children — many orphaned or displaced. Ubuntu House operates with dignity, care, and community as its foundation.

We collaborate closely with Mzee Elvis Katoto, and Ubuntu❤️. Elvis is a Congolese-British journalist, storyteller, and activist. Once a refugee himself, Elvis returned to Congo to amplify the stories of displaced people and create pathways for survival and hope. He supports women, children, elders, and men displaced by war — sharing their realities while offering direct aid.
